+The Nord Modular G2, replacement machine used Encoders, but dressed them up with the screen printing to look like Potentiometers.
So the encoder is a much more suitable device for something like the zynth, as it can quickly and seamlessly move between patches and the control interface doesn't need to be changed from one to another.
